To purchase and possess a firearm in Brazil (the right to keep it at home or at work), you must meet legal requirements and apply for authorization from the Federal Police.

Possession does not grant the right to carry the weapon in public (that requires a carry permit).

Basic Requirements: Minimum age: Must be at least 25 years old. Lawful occupation: Provide proof of formal employment or legal income. Fixed residence: Present proof of address in your name. Criminal record: Must not be the subject of a police inquiry or criminal proceedings; present negative clearance certificates from Federal, State, Military, and Electoral courts. Demonstrated need: Write a statement justifying the need for the weapon for self-defense. Technical proficiency: Prove aptitude for firearm use via a report from an accredited instructor. Mental health: Present a psychological evaluation issued by an accredited psychologist. Step-by-Step Process: Authorization Request: Apply for the purchase via the Federal Police system or at a police station, submitting the required documents, reports, and the fee paid via GRU (Government Payment Slip). Approval: Await review of the application by the responsible police chief. Weapon Purchase: Once authorization is granted, purchase the firearm from a licensed specialized store by presenting the authorization and the sales invoice. Registration (CRAF): Apply for the Firearm Registration Certificate (CRAF) with the Federal Police, linked to the registered address. Collection: With the CRAF and the Transit Permit in hand, pick up the weapon at the store and transport it directly to the authorized storage location.

It is the technical proficiency assessment required by the Federal Police for anyone wishing to acquire a firearm, obtain a CR (Shooter Registration), a CRAF (Firearm Registration Certificate), or a carry permit. The test consists of both a theoretical component and a practical range component and is administered by a certified Firearms and Shooting Instructor (IAT). Those who pass receive an official report, which supports the application process with the relevant authority.

It is the official document issued by the instructor following the assessment, certifying your technical proficiency in handling the firearm. It is provided fully completed and signed, using the format required by the Federal Police. It is valid for one year, in accordance with current regulations.

Scheduling requires at least 3 days' notice. This is not a bureaucratic hurdle of our own making: the instructor is required to notify the Federal Police of each assessment 3 business days in advance, under penalty of losing their accreditation. When scheduling via the website, you submit your ID (RG and CPF), proof of address, and the psychological report. The only mandatory attachment is the PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT; if you don't have the file for your ID or proof of address on hand, simply check the corresponding box and enter the details. The site reads the document photo or PDF and automatically fills in the registration form.

No. The assessment is conducted using firearms from our inventory, which is already included in the price. Exceptionally, it is possible to use the student's own firearm, provided the Federal Police are notified in advance; please speak with me before scheduling.

The price of each "COURSE" (this is not a test) is listed on the Courses page and is calculated based on the duration: R$ 300.00 per hour of instruction, plus R$ 200.00 for the 40 rounds of ammunition. There are no hidden costs; range time and ammunition are included in the price.

I am authorized by the Brazilian Federal Police to operate throughout the state of Paraná, although my base of operations is Curitiba and its metropolitan area. Both shooting proficiency tests and training courses are conducted at accredited partner shooting ranges; the addresses can be found on the Partner Ranges page.

If the course or training was related to or specifically aimed at the test, the answer is "NO." To meet the Federal Police's impartiality requirements, anyone who trained with me for the test must be evaluated by a different IAT designated by Harpia33. The process proceeds as usual; the only change is the person administering the evaluation.

Rescheduling is permitted only after a period of 30 days has elapsed since the failed assessment. A new test must be scheduled in accordance with Federal Police Normative Instruction (IN) 111. A new test is required for each type of weapon.

Yes, foreigners may purchase and own firearms in Brazil, provided they hold permanent residency authorization and strictly meet the same legal requirements applicable to Brazilian citizens. Foreigners visiting as tourists or holding temporary residency are not eligible to purchase firearms. To initiate the process with the Federal Police, the foreign national must meet the following mandatory criteria: Identification Documentation: Possess a definitive CRNM/RNE (National Migratory Registration Card) and an active CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry number). Minimum Age: Be at least 25 years old. Ties to the Country: Present valid proof of fixed residence and lawful occupation (regular employment) within national territory. Criminal Background: Present negative criminal record certificates from the Brazilian Federal, State, Military, and Electoral courts. Practical and Mental Aptitude: Pass a psychological evaluation and demonstrate technical proficiency (shooting test) with a Federal Police-accredited Firearms and Shooting Instructor (IAT). Justification: Submit a substantiated statement demonstrating an actual need for the firearm for personal security. Important: Initial authorization grants the right to firearm possession, allowing the weapon to be kept exclusively within one's residence or workplace (provided the individual is the legal owner of the establishment). Carrying the weapon in public (concealed or open carry) is not included and is subject to specific, restrictive regulations.
